Recode has learned that Amazon has been hiring the biggest number of full-time, full-year IT staff, with the firm reporting more than 1,000 hires so far this year.
The company said the hiring spree is the most in its history.
“Amazon has continued to hire top talent across the company, and today we’re announcing more than 500 new positions for software developers across our cloud and data centers,” Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said in a blog post announcing the new hires.
“With our new hiring initiative, we’re working hard to get you closer to the things you love most.”
The hiring spree comes on the heels of a $4 billion deal Amazon signed with Microsoft earlier this year to sell its cloud-computing and Internet of Things businesses to Microsoft Corp. for $7.6 billion.
Amazon’s hiring spree also follows a similar hiring spree for software engineers in 2015.
Amazon announced the hiring of more than 5,000 software engineers last year, with nearly all of the new IT hires in the cloud and on the Internet of things fields.
