BAMBOO BOOKS, NY — BAMBs book store, which specializes in new and reissued books, has become the latest retailer to embrace the idea of online sales and have announced that it will be selling the new Kindle e-reader from Amazon in its brick-and-mortar stores.
The online-only store will sell its latest e-books from its Kindle store and Amazon will sell the e-book for $1.99 or less, the retailer said Wednesday.
The online store will also sell its e-readers for $2.99.
The new Kindle is the first new e-Reader to hit the market since Amazon began selling it in March of last year.
Amazon said it would make Kindle ebooks available for free for new customers on the Kindle app.
The e-ink reader is priced at $199.99, making it the second-lowest-priced e-reading device available for $200, behind only the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
BAMBO BOOKS is also making Kindle eBooks available for only $1 per book, making the device the second lowest-priced ebook reader.
The store has not yet confirmed the sale, but a BAMbos spokesman said the ebooks would be available from Jan. 7 to Feb. 8.
For the first time, BAMs online store, www.bambsbooks.com, will be offering Kindle eReaders at a discount.
While online sales for ebooks have become more popular as the ebook market has grown, the majority of book sales at retail are still online.
The move comes after Amazon started selling books in stores in April and has since expanded to the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Brazil, Spain, Germany, Austria, Italy, Poland, Israel, Brazil and Turkey.
More than 200 retail chains have joined Amazon and BAMbs stores in selling ebooks.
Many of the largest retailers, including Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy and Macy’s, already offer books on Amazon, but many of those chains have struggled to sell their products to customers.
As the ereader’s popularity grows, many retailers are looking for ways to sell to the online community, said Andrew Miller, chief marketing officer at BAMbos e-commerce business.
“It’s been really good to see the growth of the eReader community and that it’s been so successful in its first month,” Miller said in an interview Wednesday.
“We’re going to continue to offer eReads to our customers and we’re going, again, to be open to that.”
Amazon has not commented on the price point of the new eReadzer, but it said the device will be available for the next two weeks for $99.99 with free shipping.
