How Thailand bookstore shut down

LAS VEGAS — Thai bookstores across the country are being forced to shut down due to the coronavirus outbreak, which has prompted a surge in online sales.

Thai online bookseller Tien Thanh told The Associated Press that his business has been closed since Friday.

He said he has about 200 books in stock but is still selling.

The online sales are not a problem for other booksellers in the country, he said.

The online sales have increased significantly in the past few weeks, he added.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok told the AP that the embassy has been working with Thai authorities to monitor the situation.
